Today I decided to shadow a hygienist that's works with Dr. Bryan, and her name was Mandy. Today we had 7 cleanings and 5 of them were typically cleanings. A typical cleaning starts with scraping all the plaque from all the teeth and examines all teeth to make sure there are no cavities. Then she polishes each teeth, and lastly she flosses in between each tooth. That is a typically cleaning everyone goes for every six months. The two that were different was one person came in and he was a adivd smoker and coffee drinker. That made most of his teeth were stained, Mandy had to sharpen the tools because his teeth were going to be harder to scrap. The other patient that was different was a thirteen year old girl with braces. Her having the braces made it a harder time to clean, that's why Mandy pulled out a tool called the cavitron. The cavitron is a device specifically to clean those with braces, it vibrates while shooting water to clear the plaque out of all the teeth. Then she need to thread the floss through each individual tooth. With all that, I worked 8-5 with a hour lunch break, making my tots hours of work being 8!
