Day 6; Monday. 5/8/17

Today was filled with lots of fillings. First, we had two that didn't have fillings, one got sealant over her last filling because it was bothering her whenever cold liquids would touch it. The other was a new patient, so she needed to do a new patient exam which starts with getting a full new set of x-rays and then Dr. Bryan examines them and meets the patient! Now on to the fillings, there were about 5 people out of 7 who got fillings today! I talked to Dr. Bryan's assistant and she told me the procedure for both the front teeth and back teeth because both have similarities and differences. First the front teeth process starts with numbing the area, and then the dentist removes the decay. Next, she cleans the area to make sure nothing is stuck there that could cause irritation after putting the filling in. After  she puts a bonding on to match the tooth color so the bonding isn't as noticeable, and a composite . Then an ultra violet is put up to the bonding, and it helps to stay. Lastly, articulate paper is put in between the top and bottom of the teeth and they have them bite and grind their teeth to see how the filling feels and if it needs to be adjusted. This is the point where if you were getting a filling on the back teeth, it would be over, but not if a filling was getting done on the front. That's is where mini disk are used to smoothen out the area, they use first a course setting, then medium, then fine and finally super fine. Once all of that is done they clean the teeth with a phosphoric acid, which helps to clean the tooth, as well as that they also floss to make sure the filling won't fall out. That is all I learned today, with working 8-2:30 and having no lunch so I got a total of 6.5 hours today!
