On Fridays, both Dr. Evelyn and Dr. Roland offices' are closed, and my plan was to work with my godmother who is a medical nurse, but I can't start until next Friday. That designated today to be a research day, and I happened to find a lot. I decided to take pictures of the models that are used to help physically describe to patients their options. They are used in the periodontist and dental implant office because this is a main part of what they do. The first two upper pictures are an example of what an implant is. The dentist first removes the real tooth and root, and then in another visit when the wound is healed the screw will go in that place. When all of that is done, in a new visit, they will take a post, which is a then type pin, and put that down the middle of the screw and put the implant on top off all of that and it is screwed in. The middle and bottom left photo is what it looks like to put in dentures, it is similar to the implants except there are four screws put around on the open gums, and the dentures have four responding holes to connect the two and help the dentures to stay. Lastly, the photo of the three teeth connected, is called a bridge. A bridge is when instead of put a screw and pin into the mouth, they take the two adjacent teeth and drill them down a little. Once that has happen the dentist takes a bridge of three teeth connected to each other. They cement the two teeth on the outside to the drilled down teeth, and then it all says there without having to use drills. Today I spent a hour and a half researching and making sure everything was correct.
