Day 3; Wednesday 5/3

Today I switched offices and went to Dr. Evelyn M. Bryan DMD.PC, where she specializes in restorative, implant, cosmetic, and family dentistry. Today was totally different than yesterday and Monday because Dr. Roland and Dr. Evelyn work in two totally different fields of dentistry. The first patient was at 8 a.m and it was just Dr. Evelyn taking impressions on a patients lower teeth to get a new partial which is a type of mouth guard for people who tend to grind their teeth at night. They used a type of cement to make the impressions and then put them into a box to ship out to a lab to get taken to make the mouth guard. The next patient came in for a routine re-filling, which is when a cavity is formed in the mouth and the dentist goes and removes the cavity and fills it so there isn't a huge hole in a tooth. Over time, fillings need to be refilled and that is exactly what that patient needed. The third patient came in because one of his crowns had fallen off one of his teeth. Dr. Evelyn took the crown to clean out all the stuff stuck in the crown, while the dental assistant stayed and cleaned out the patients tooth. Once both were cleaned, they cemented the crown back on top of the tooth, and to keep in place, they gave him a piece of wood to bite on for four minutes. Once those first four minutes were up, the dental assistant took it out and cleaned the cement that got pushed out out of the crown around it. Then she had him put it in for another four minutes and then cleaned once more and then sent the patient on his way. Lastly, a new patient came in and the first step to when a new patient comes in you take full x-rays of the teeth, and they needed to be perfect so this took around a hour. Once that was all done Dr. Evelyn examined them and talked to the patient about her dental past. Then she took the new patient to the front desk and make an appointment for a routine cleaning to become familiar with the teeth. I only worked 8-12, which is 4 hours in total for today, because at 12 I headed up to Proctor for a softball game, that we won 15-0!!
