My day started off by arriving at Dr. Roland Bryan, D.M.D. P.C., where he does periodontics and dental implants, at 8 a.m. to learn the rules and guidelines and broke down what we were doing for the first patient. We went right into the first patient, he had problems with one of his lower left molars. Dr. Bryan had previously learned in a prior visit that he was going to need this tooth removed. The procedure started with giving the patient novocaine to numb the area, so he would feel no pain. Next he cut and peeled back the gums away from the tooth to give the tooth an easier root to be extracted from. Lastly, Dr. Bryan sectioned the tooth by drilling down the middle until the drill hit the bottom of the tooth. Once it was all the way down and gave the pliers enough room to fit in between, he put the pliers in and removed one half the tooth and then the other half. Once the tooth was completely out, it was washed and cleaned out, then Dr. Bryan stitched the wound up with dissolvable stitches. That was only the first patient, throughout the rest of the day we visited a few more, some were just post-ops and others were experiencing pain and we took X-rays then made a plan to fix the pain in the future. With the hour lunch I got from 1-2, I spent the entire day from 8-5 making my total hours of today being 8 hours. Not bad for my first day, and I can't wait for many more!
So you saw some blood and gore today?!? How awesome!! I am excited to hear about tomorrow, if all this excitement happened on just day one!
